Aloha, e komo mai (welcome, come in)! I recently completed my class at Ohio Fire Academy and started on shift for my new job as a full-time firefighter. We’re getting used to the new schedule and then you’ll start seeing posts June 11, 2019.
My Journey Through Parenthood
The Aloha Dad is a place for me to share my view on the busy life of a parent. My goal is to minimize the time spent doing “adult” things to have more time making memories. Cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the house still needs to get done, but I’m looking for the most efficient way to do it.
This site is intended for our ʻohana to use as a quick reference and others like ours. Busy parents in their 30s-40s that want to focus on ʻohana, while maintaining other priorities in their life. This is for parents that want to raise nice, caring children that are self-reliant and not afraid to try new things.
Some of the main topics I’ll be writing about include:
- Food & Recipes. I’ve recently gotten interested in freezer meals and plan to start researching and trying more of those. We tried one session where we made six meals in an hour and I loved it! Starting off, we’ll be trying a little bit of everything but I’m slowly going to start working on curating a list of healthy freezer meals. We’ll also be highlighting our favorite recipes, like Loco Moco.
- Health & Fitness. I’ve always enjoyed running but not so much lifting or other types of workouts. My goal is to run 1,000 miles this year. I started some cross-fit last year and only stopped when I had a 10-week firefighting course. Now I’m done with the course and looking to hit the gym and get back into cross-fit. My 5-year old daughter loves to jump in when I’m working out and I think it’s important for the kids to see how important staying fit is. I’ve been a volunteer firefighter since 2016 and got hired as a full-time firefighter earlier this year. There isn’t much better motivation than that.
- Travel & Activities. Although we haven’t done a lot of travel, we do love to go hiking and camping. Our goal is to do more travel. There are a lot of activities we enjoy as a family and we’ll be sharing some ideas for you.
- Frugal Living. I like saving money. Don’t we all? I’ll be sharing tips and tricks we find along the way to save money. For example, we make our own foaming hand soap.
God is my top priority with family a close second. I work as a full-time firefighter, volunteer for our local fire department, serve as an Electronics Technician in the United States Navy Reserve, am running 1,000 miles this year, love being outdoors, and have fun with WordPress and coding.
